A new manuscript by Massad and Banta presents the derivation of a kinetic rate model for carboligation reactions catalyzed by formolase enzymes.  These enzymes can ligate formaldehyde into 2 and 3 carbon products, enabling carbon-carbon bond formation from simple C1 feedstocks.  The new rate law was then used to develop figures of merit so that new formolase mutants can be compared.  The new results were published in Biotechnology and Bioengineering.
