New Paper Published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology

A new manuscript by Inaba, Banerjee, Kernan and Banta describing the chromosomal integration of foreign DNA into the A. ferrooxidans genome was published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology.  A hyperactive transposase was used to integrate a GFP gene as well as a gene that enables the production of isobutyric acid from CO2.  A. ferrooxidans are key species in metal biomining operations and their genetic modification will be important for improving mining operations and these cells may represent a new platform species for renewable electrofuel production.
