A new manuscript by Banta and Wheeldon describing a theoretical approach for comparing multireactant enzymes was published in ACS Catalysis. The ratio of kcat/KM is frequently used to compare enzymes, although this is not always justified for enzymes that have more than one substrate. Here new figures of merit are derived for multireactant enzymes based on transition state stabilization or from Haldane relationships.
