New Article Published in Chemical Science

A new manuscript by Khoury, Heater, Marzolf, Abeyrathna, Picking, Kumar, Higgins, Jones, Lewis, Kucharzyk and Banta was published as an Edge Article in Chemical Science.  This manuscript, which was selected as a 2025 Chemical Science HOT Article, a 2025 ChemSci Pick of the Week, and appeared on the back cover of the journal, describes the evaluation of a number of calcium binding peptide domains for rare earth element binding and separation. A new peptide, HEW5, is able to demonstrate chelator-free single-stage separation of a lanthanum–neodymium mixture. These peptides demonstrate our ability to efficiently separate critical materials using environmentally benign bioseparation approaches.
