A new manuscript by Jung, Inaba, West and Banta describes the effects of the overexpression of quorum sensing genes in A. ferrooxidans on their bioleaching capabilities. Under low iron conditions, the overexpression of the afeI gene increased biofilm formation and enhanced bioleaching of covellite was observed. The new results were published in Biotechnology Reports.
